The dental cavity represents the destruction of hard dental tissues. The localization of the dental cavity is varied, but it is most frequently encountered on the walls of the dental corona. The etiopathogeny is complex and the gravity differs, based on the degree of the evolution, with the implication or non implication of the pulp (simple or complicated cavity)

Dental cavities are one of the most frequent diseases of the oral cavity. They are frequently encountered at young people, during adolescence, but it can affect people of any age, being the most frequent cause for loosing teeth.
One of the most important factors responsible for the apparition of dental cavities is not using a proper brushing technique, through which bacterial plaque is removed, plaque which sets on the teeth and which is responsible for the formation of cavities because bacteria from the bacterial plaque attack the dental enamel. In the first phase of evolution the dental cavity is not painful, but the more it advances in the depth of the tooth, it becomes painful because it gets close to the tooth´s pulp. Untreated at their time, they can lead to loosing the tooth´s vitality.
When they are discovered in their first evolutionary phase, dental cavities are easy to treat. Dental cavities are cleaned, isolated and then restored with last generation composite materials, which restores the initial aspect of the tooth.
Composite materials present a series of advantages: they restore the natural resistance of the tooth; teeth restored with esthetic materials look like the natural tooth; esthetic restoration materials need minimum sacrifycing of the dental tissue unlike materials of amalgam type.
How can you prevent the apparition of dental cavities?
Oral hygiene is very important (Wash your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste);
Use floss.
Take a visit to the dentist once every 6 months for a periodical consultation and prophylaxis.
